Hardwick Select Board clashed with its town administrator over unauthorized legal spending and advanced a sale of the town's historic schoolhouse.
Select Board · Meeting of May 26, 2026
Hardwick Select Board clashed with its town administrator over unauthorized legal spending and advanced a sale of the town's historic schoolhouse. Vice Chair William Tinker said he was denied access to town counsel despite being a sitting board member, and said a $5,700 investigation report commissioned in November has never been publicly released. Town Administrator Justine defended her authority, saying "that person happens to be me right now" of the board's decades-old decision to hire professional management.
A resident identified as Liz said Hardwick seniors have abandoned the regional senior center in Barry: "I talked to dozens of residents in town that said they will never step foot in there ever again." The board tabled the Hardwick-Barry Council on Aging agreement and unanimously voted to accept a request for proposals, with no minimum bid, for the George H. Gilbert Historic Schoolhouse, assessed at roughly $246,000.
