Finance Committee · Meeting of May 21, 2026

Hardwick's Select Board voted 2-1 to adopt a $7.3 million fiscal 2027 budget that relies on $200,000 in one-time revenue from a gravel sale and a solar payment. Finance Committee member Christopher Culross called it "a spending problem, not a revenue problem," citing 16 years of finance-committee service across two towns. Town Administrator Justine defended the plan as balanced, saying "we have a balanced budget to go to town meeting with." Finance Committee Vice Chair Mark Korzec questioned unresolved gravel-sale details, including pricing and yardage verification, while a newer Select Board member, Spencer, argued an eventual Proposition 2½ override decision belongs to voters: "It's up to the voters to decide: do we want 24-7 coverage or do we not?" The town's budget stays under its levy limit by about $24,000, with town meeting expected within two weeks.
